A day here

From the gate to pickup

The order stays the same from day to day. How long each part lasts changes with the weather and the age group.

  1. 01

    Step 1: The gate

A teacher opens the yard gate and meets each child. Boots and rain gear go on, and your child's name goes on the sign-in list.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Out after drop-off

The group walks out to the yard, the garden or the path. Infants go out in a carrier or a stroller, for shorter blocks.

  3. 03

Step 3: Snack in the garden

Snack is eaten outside at the long table, or in the porch shelter when it is wet. We wash hands at the outdoor sink first.

  4. 04

    Step 4: More outside time

Digging, climbing, building and carrying. The mud kitchen, the beds and the hill are in use all morning.

  5. 05

    Step 5: Lunch indoors

Lunch is cooked in our kitchen and eaten indoors at low tables. Wet gear goes on the drying rack.

  6. 06

    Step 6: Rest

Every child rests on their own cot in the quiet room. Babies sleep when they need to, in their own cot.

  7. 07

    Step 7: Back outside

After rest the groups go out again, for a shorter block in winter and a longer one in spring.

  8. 08

Step 8: Pickup at the gate

A teacher hands each child back at the gate, and tells you something about the day.
